One of the Chamasir Secondary school dormitories in Teso North Sub County of Busia County was gutted down on Thursday morning in a bizarre incident leaving the one hundred and one students who occupied the facility in dire need of help.
The fire, which started at around 8 am according to reliable sources, might have been caused by electric fault though more investigations are currently underway.
Students’ belongings including books, bedding, boxes, clothes etc were completely destroyed by the marauding inferno although no cases of injuries were reported.
This comes in just a year and a half when another inferno gutted down another dormitory in the school causing massive damage of property.
“‘ We are going to investigate the matter fully and establish the exact cause of this inferno…Meanwhile, I urge the students and the school’s teaching fraternity to remain calm as investigations continue.” Said the Director of Education, Teso North Sub County, Naftal Ombati.
His sentiments were echoed by Teso North Deputy Sub County commissioner Peter Karanja who urged local leaders and well-wishers to come in handy and offer emergency help to the affected students.
Area residents, however, blasted the County Government of Busia for failing to avail the fire extinguisher machine in time.
The machine was brought four hours later after the fire had been put off by the students and members of the community
However, nothing was saved from the ill fated dormitory.
