Sugarcane farmers from Tindiret, Chemase and Chemursoi region in Nandi County have accused the National government over the alleged fraudulent giving of 10,000 ha of Miwani Nucleus farm to a private developer without their consent.
Speaking with journalists in Chemase area, a section of sugarcane farmers representatives from the region led by the county speaker of Nandi Hon Joshua Kiptoo accused the government for allegedly trying to fraudulently give the 10,000 acres of Miwani Nucleus farm to private developer identified as Crossley Holdings Ltd who purports to be the owner of the said land despite series of court cases, a situation they have termed as unacceptable and won’t allow it.
Kiptoo claimed there is a scrupulous conspiracy for illegal transfers of the said piece of land originally registered as the public land Number LR7545/3 to a private entity contrary to the law blaming the National land commission for this scrupulous land privatization despite pending series of court cases.
They demanded the government to stop any transactions concerning the disputed piece of land that occupies parts of Nandi and Kisumu until the sugarcane farmers are consulted for away forward.
“The government has chosen to ignore us by allowing illegal selling of the public land to a private developer and as farmers we will stop it by petitioning the idea” Kiptoo affirmed.
If the government wants to lease out the purported piece of land, then we have given out our demands as farmers that the sugar company be revived to revitalize the economy of the region and transform lives.
