A serial murder suspect Evans Juma Wanjala has pleaded not guilty to murder charges after being arraigned at Kapenguria high court on Wednesday morning.
The suspect who was to take plea denied three murder charges before Kapenguria high court judge Justus Bwonwonga.
Wanjala was facing three counts of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code Cap 63.
Before Justice Justus Bwonwonga the court was told that between 31st December 2017 to 1st January 2020 the suspect Evans Juma Wanjala murdered Staicy Achieng in Moi’s bridge area Soy Sub County but the suspect denied the first count.
On count two the accused person was charged for committing murder on Linda Cherono within Moi’s bridge area between 11th to 15th June 2021 but the suspect denied.
On the third count the suspect also denied to have killed Mary Eruza at Tuiyaberi area Soy Sub County between 15th to 16th December 2020.
The suspect who denied the three murder offences told the court that he had no question on the murder offences before the court.
The accused is alleged to have killed and defiled five girls in Moi’s bridge area in Uasin Gishu County between 2017 to 2021.
Before the court, Michael Wabomba Masinde advocate for the accused filed an affidavit for the suspect to be bailed out but the bail terms were opposed by the court
“The bail will be determined by the Eldoret high court, if given the bail he might interfere with the murder case.” Said Justice Bwonwonga.
Jalson Makori Assistant deputy of the office of public prosecution said if the accused is released on bail he may interfere with witnesses.
Justice Bwonwonga directed the case to be mentioned on 8th September 2021 before the Eldoret high court and he should be remanded at Eldoret GK prison.
Some of the parents of the victims who turned in court to hear the case said they need justice to be delivered since they lost their kids through the hands of the serial killer.
Geoffrey Omega father to the late Mary Eruza said if their daughters would be alive they could be at school continuing with their education.
Harrison Kinywaa another parent said they are depending on the courts to deliver justice but it’s so devastating for the suspect to deny the charges yet he had confessed earlier to have killed the girls when he was interrogated by DCI officers.
