Nandi leaders led by Governor Stephen Sang and MP Tindiret Julius Melly, has asked the National government to consider recognizing and honoring athletes for their continued exemplary performances which has put the country in the map of athletics.
Speaking at Eldoret International Airport during the reception of Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Peres Jepchirchir and Amos Kipruto, the leaders lamented that the country is ignoring athletes despite their tireless effort in flagging high the Kenyan flag, adding that the government should wake up and be serious especially on issues touching athletes by feting and honoring them.
“It is unfortunate that despite our athletes performing well in Tokyo Olympics, the government did not give them heroic reception.” They said angrily.
They revealed that the government should honor them by supporting their talents and giving them opportunity to serve in the Kenya Defence and police forces to help them transform and change their lives.
Governor sang cited that his administration is working around the clock to ensure that Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex in Kapsabet which is under construction is completed so as to help athletes use it to train and exploit their talents fully.
He added that the facility is under construction and is 75% nearing completion saying athletes are already training at the facility.
On the other hand, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Peres Jepchirchir said as athletes they are supposed to be feted and honored like other athletes from other countries saying Uganda is doing wonders for its athletes while Kenya has decided to ignore them despite their tireless exemplary performances.
