Lugari constituency in Kakamega County has continued to record below average voter turn out as the nationwide mass voter listing exercises enters the last week.

Briefing the media in her office, constituency Assistant Returning Officer, Mercy Kweya, said a total of 2,332 persons have registered as new voters across the six wards in the area for the past three weeks which she said translated to only 13% of the total target.

“This was far below our set target,” observed Kweya, who revealed the constituency targets about 17,664 new voters by the end of the one month exercise.

She appealed to all eligible voters in the area to use this opportunity and acquire voter’s cards in readiness to participate in the August general elections.

Elsewhere, Lugari Sub County Registration of Persons officer James Luchiri has appealed to owners of uncollected Identity Cards to visit Chiefs and assistant chiefs’ offices in order to pick the same.

He revealed that over 1,000 identification cards were lying uncollected at the local administration offices.

“The owners, who are mostly youth, should pick the cards to enable them enlist as voters during the ongoing mass voter registration exercise,” urged Luchiri.
