The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been tasked by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey to take Biometric Voter Registration services to areas that is accessible to persons living with disabilities (PWDs) so as to enable them register as voters and guaranteed their democratic right of voting process in the next coming general elections of 2022.

Speaking in a function in Nandi, Cherargey noted that some of the persons living with disabilities in the region are not in a position of accessing some areas due to their physical challenges thus urged the IEBC Nandi branch to ensure they take these services closer to them or conduct it in more accessible places to fit them.

“I want to ask the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to consider PWDs in the ongoing voter registration exercise by taking the services closer to them,”he affirmed.

He revealed that majority of them are experiencing physical challenges that block them from voter registration thus appealed to the Commission to make the kits available to them.

The senator urged all the members of the public to come out in large numbers and register as voters to enable them participate in electing their leaders in the coming 2022 general elections.

He added that as UDA followers they will rally behind the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto in his presidential bid thus calling upon the Nandi residents to register as voters without failure.

Nandi County is targeting a total of 79,733 voters in the ongoing voter registration exercise and for the past one week since the commencement of the exercise, Nandi has managed to register 3,321 voters which is still low compared to the targeted number.

Nandi has a total of 348,823 registered voters as per the 2017 voter registration register.
