The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has only achieved 26 % of its target in Lugari Sub County during the massive voter registration exercise.

Speaking to West Media in his office, Lugari Sub County Elections Coordinator, Mr. Japheth Lang’at  disclosed that a total of 4,594  persons  have registered as new voters in the sub county against the projected 17,664, which according to the coordinator translated to about 26%.

According to statistics in his office, Lumakanda ward led with 897 newly registered voters and was followed by Lwandeti and Mautuma with 873 and 808 voters respectively.

Chevaywa and Lugari wards recorded 803 and 648 new voters respectively.

“Chekalini ward trailed after managing to register 565 new voters,” revealed Lang’at who cited lack of enough funds and voter education as among key challenges that contributed to failure by the body to realize her set targets.

The neighbouring Likuyani Sub County also recorded a low turnout managing only 24% of the total target.

According to the area Returning Officer Mr. Enoch Otaro , statistics in his office by Tuesday evening indicate that 3,614 new voters were registered against a target of 14, 538 voters.

“We have only managed to achieve 24% of our target, “ said Otaro
