A stern warning has been issued against men who are fond of preying on young girls living with disabilities.

Speaking at Maturu Special School in Matete sub county, chairman for the People Living With Disability in the sub county Mr. Kennedy Makokha said it was disappointing to see some men taking advantage of the disabled girls to sexually molest them.

He claimed cases of rape of young girls living with disability are high and demanded for action from relevant authorities.

“It’s disappointing despite reporting these cases the culprits are later set free without even being arraigned in court. We are demanding justice for our daughters,” said Makokha.

Elsewhere, Makokha denounced certain adult registered companies purporting to belong to PLWD yet they aren’t. He said such illegal registered companies are denying genuine PLWD opportunities in Matete area.

“We have discovered there are certain registered companies under PLWD for the purpose of easily winning tenders yet they are not. Let them know that we are aware,” he claimed.

His sentiments were echoed by the KASA disabled group coordinator Mr. Lazarus Miti who appealed for thorough investigations into cases of people benefiting illegally at the expense of PLWD.

“We are not children of a lesser God we are demanding for our rights, we want justice for our girls who are being raped every now and then and we also demand what is rightfully ours,” said Miti.

Miti however blamed parents who use their children’s living disabilities to borrow money in public places. He said the children should be taken to school and not used to fend for their families through borrowing.

On his side, Isaac Wabuge  Maturu Special School head teacher called on the parents with school going children living with disability not to hide them but  enroll them  at the school to enable them acquire knowledge that will help them to become productive members in the society.
