Mufutu primary school in Lugari Sub County is at the moment staring closure for lack of latrines.
According to the school head teacher Mr. Kizito Nabwana the school which has a population of 843 is relying on five latrines which are also shared by teachers.

He said a total of 449 boys were relying on two latrines while 394 girls depended on three latrines which is against the public health requirements.

A public health report reveals that the five toilets were capable of serving only 125 pupils.

This has consequently put the health of pupils and teachers in a precarious position as they are likely to get infected with contagious diseases.

Mr. Kizito said  already, public health officers have issued a 31 day notice to the school management to construct 33 more latrines failure to comply the school will be closed down.

“We are supposed to put up 16 new latrines for girls, 15 for boys and two latrines for teachers,” said the head teacher.

He said following the closure notice, the school was forced to contact a quick fund drive that managed to raise Kshs.100, 000 that has helped start putting up six door latrines.

The head teacher is now sending a passionate appeal to the area MP Ayub Savula to intervene through the National Government Constituency Development Fund and save it from closure.

A similar appeal has been issued by Mr. William Makhalanya Libombolo who donated construction material to the school to help in the construction of latrines.
