The Kenya Wildlife Service Nandi county branch has received the carcass of a giant rare bird (white stork) that died in Mogon village in Baraton, Nandi county after hitting the power lines.

The carcass was brought in by a conservationist Mr. Elicky Misoi who found it after being electrocuted in the region.

Speaking to journalists at KWS offices, Misoi claimed that the bird was electrocuted while trying to rest on power lines and had metallic tags in its legs which indicated it came from Poland.

“The bird had metallic tags on its legs that indicated it was from Poland and it prompted me to take it to KWS.” He added.

The migrating bird had flown over 7,000 Km to Kenya from Poland and its carcass was surrendered to KWS for preservation as Wildlife trophy.

According to the African Wildlife Foundation, the White stork travels annually in Sub-Saharan Africa to evade extreme European Winters.

In 2021, another white giant bird that had flown into Kenya from Scandivavian country died in quite a similar manner in Kitale likewise to the year 2020 whereby an Osprey bird that had flown over 7,000 km from Finland was found dead in Kisumu due to starvation.
