Local leaders in Lugari Sub County have been urged to help in educating unregistered voters on the importance of their votes before the end of the 21 days second phase of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise.
Speaking to West Media at the IEBC office in Lumakanda, the Constituency Deputy Returning Officer Mercy Kweya said leaders and other opinion leaders should play key role in meeting the target of 12, 761 unregistered voters in Lumakanda, Lugari, Chevaywa, Lwandeti, Mautuma and Chekalini wards.
“The exercise is taking place in all the six wards with three registration kits deployed per ward and we hope this time we will meet our target of registering 12,761 new voters in the Constituency,” Kweya said.
She revealed that registering officers will be moving around in all the 92-polling stations in the constituency so that all unregistered voters get an opportunity to be registered.
She said chiefs and their assistants have been incorporated in the exercise and given timetables on the movement of the registration kits in their area of jurisdiction so that they can direct locals on where to go and register.
The official also called on politicians, especially aspirants of various seats to step up and mobilize all eligible voters to register as this is the last mass registration exercise before the August 9th polls.
