A section of Amani National Congress (ANC) party officials in Trans Nzoia County have jumped ship to the rival Democratic Action party (DAP-K) following a move by their former party to join hands with the United Democratic Alliance party.
The officials led by Kevin Kubumba accused their former party leader Musalia Mudavadi of betrayal saying he did not put to account their view about the new union before he made the move on Sunday during a National Delegates Conference.
“We all hoped that our party leader was determined to be at the ballot in the August general election but his quick move to join Deputy President Dr.William Ruto is a sign of surrender,” said Kevin Kubumba.
They said it is hypocritical for Mudavadi to claim that he is committed to rectifying the economic ills of the Jubilee government yet he has been bagged by Dr. Ruto who ironically is the second in command in the very government.
“Mudavadi has for long built his political profile as an upright leader who is committed to economic revolution but his recent move which was motivated by selfish interest has overturned everything,” said James Nyasinga.
The defectors said they will now owe their allegiance to the DAP-K party which is in the Azimio La Umoja alliance whose presidential flag bearer is ODM leader Raila Odinga terming him as the best alternative to Mudavadi.
“We have been so determined to see Mudavadi on the ballot but his move to auction the Luhya community leaves us with no option but to shift our allegiance to Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa,” said Pastor Moses Wekesa.
They further said they will drum up support for Democratic Action Party DAP-K candidates in the region to ensure the party has a majority of elected Members of Parliament in the Western region.
“The party of choice for this region is DAP-K. We no longer want to have anything to do with ANC and Ford Kenya which have been reduced to being at the mercy of the UDA party,” said Mark Adir.
