Two people died on the spot as one escaped with serious injuries after being hit by a trailer at Nzoia bridge near Kaburengu trading centre along Eldoret – Webuye highway in Matete, Kakamega County.
Confirming the Tuesday night incident, Matete Sub County Police Commander Thomas Ototo said the victims were travelling on a motorbike from Webuye towards Kaburengu before they were hit from the back by the speeding trailer.
The impact threw the motorbike rider and one of his pillion passengers in front of the vehicle which ran over them, smashing them to death.
A second passenger escaped with serious injuries before she was rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital in critical condition.
The police boss has urged drivers to be mindful of other road users by observing traffic rules to avoid unnecessary accidents.
The two bodies were removed from the scene and taken to Webuye hospital mortuary.
