National Council of Persons living with Disability Members from Bungoma County have thanked the body created to help them for the efforts put to help people with disability from the county.
Speaking to the press in Bungoma office, the officer in-charge of the PWD in Bungoma county Rosemary Akoth said the body has helped its members including students who benefit from scholarships organized by NCPWD.
“So many students have benefited from NCPWD by getting scholarships from our local banks including Faulu which takes care of five students, others have received artificial limps to help them move freely,”she said.
Akoth also noted that the government has registered many of the members to programs that help them get wheelchairs, white cane and cranes. She said that the PWD are also empowered and listed with the cash transfer programs which help them to start businesses or expand their already running businesses.
She cited that NCPWD gives free sunscreen lotions, sun glasses, caps and polo t-shirts to all PWD.
“The disabled have a chance of accessing government procurement opportunities like LPO and tax exemption on their monthly or annual income and when importing their goods,” she added.
She said the government has also helped in building schools for People With Disabilities whereby they are trained the sign language and after that they are hired by different organizations to help in interpretations.
