West Pokot leaders affiliated to Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Union Party (KUP) leaders have accused  the Deputy President William Ruto for meddling in West Pokot County politics.

The leaders dismissed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party influence in the region as they fault it for having no agenda for the community.

They said the area will vote as a block to deliver more than 400,000 votes for the Azimio la Umoja political outfit from the Pokot community in the forthcoming general elections slated for 9th August 2022.

Led by West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo who is the KUP party leader, who received former Sigor MP Phillip Rotino who ditched the UDA party for KUP Party with more than 200 supporters ruled out the possibility of working with Deputy President William Ruto.

During his visit in the county, two weeks ago DP William Ruto urged residents to shun listening to leaders like Lonyangapuo who are cheating the community to go to the opposition.

He  noted that he won’t allow some few leaders to bargain and sell West Pokot residents to leaders who haven’t been there to help and develop the county when it was underdeveloped.

DP Ruto said a section of the leaders have been isolating themselves to auction the West Pokot votes for their own benefit.

However, Governor Lonyangapuo insists that they have thrown weight behind former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for Presidency in the coming polls adding that DP Ruto was disrespectful to the Pokot community.

Prof Lonyangapuo named the KUP aspirants  vying for various seats in the County faulted DP William Ruto for  abusing and insulting leaders in the county.

Governor Lonyangapuo who defended his new party castigated UDA leaders led by DP Ruto for being disrespectful and referring to KUP as a village, tribal, party only for Pokots.

Prof Lonyangapuo said that his party was growing every day with over 200,000 registered members and had offices  in all the 47 counties across the country.

The County boss reiterated that his new KUP party will be on the negotiating table in the coming general elections.

Pokot South MP, David Pkosing who is the KUP first Deputy Party leader who showered Raila Odinga with praises said that the former premier was well placed to lead the country.

He explained that their party believes in structured inclusivity.

The Pokot South legislator, David Pkosing who was a Jubilee Party member and joined the KUP dismissed the DP visit as missing the point and that they should concentrate on selling the main policies to locals and not coming up with a bunch of rejects that were defeated many times.

The former Sigor MP, Philip  Rotino who was in UDA said that he made up his mind after seeing confusion with the party.
