Salaams clubs play an important role in West Media where fans have a choice of being in either West FM or Mumbo FM salaams clubs and engage in meaningful developments that are geared to uplift their living standards and most of them have started projects that have enabled them to raise money for instance some have public address systems and others have animals; depending on their plans.
However, some groups end up breaking due to politics especially such an electioneering year. Many politicians go for such organised groups and instead of supporting them they divide them and end leading them to break and therefore have been warned to be careful as they deal with such politicians.
David Makhanu, the chairperson of Mumbo FM salaams clubs for Webuye CBO while addressing several of his groups that had gathered at Mahanga village in Bokoli ward in Webuye West Sub County in a merry-go round to support Subile Mumbo FM salaams club to purchase seats, warned his members and appealed them to remember the reason that brought them together and he said as much as each has a right to engage in politics but should not be used to divide the groups and reminded them to preach peace all the electioneering season and remain focused on their development agenda.
“I know some politicians are going to come into our groups with the message of helping us or partnering with us but their main objective is to divide as for their own benefit, let’s welcome them when they come, listen to them but make your personal judgement without interfering with our groups,” said Makhanu
His sentiments were echoed by the project manager Claton Wafula Soita who said as a CBO they have made milestone as far as development and projects are concerned and appealed to group leaders not to allow politics to destroy the development saying it may take time to put up structures they had laid down for many years,” let’s not allow politics to take this development down the drain, let’s safeguard it jealously,” said Soita.
However, Subile salams club chairperson Mrs. Emily Masika assured the CBO leadership that the money they have received will be utilized as planned to buy more chairs to fill the number that they intended to have as she thanked the groups for turning up in large numbers to support them in their course.
Parents were advised to take good care of their children especially the girls so that they can return to school in the same condition.
A member of the host group Mrs. Josephine Makokha could not hide her joy after the CBO supported her to have cheek operated after suffering for a very long time and appealed to those who are not in salaams clubs to join West Media salaams clubs for there is benefit, something that was echoed by her son Evans Kituyi who acknowledged that without the support of the CBO he would have lost his mother.
