A thirteen year old girl and her twelve year old brother died Monday afternoon after drowning in Kipsangui river, in Mmbasu village, Soy Sub location in Likuyani sub county.
According to Adriano Limisi, his niece and nephew left in the morning to play in the neighborhood and decided to swim in the river before they drowned.
“They left at around 10am to play in the neighborhood before I received information from a boda boda rider that there were two children who had drowned in this river, when I came to check I was shocked to find it was my niece and nephew,” said Limisi.
Confirming the incident, Soy Sub location assistant chief Bonivanture Lugado said the two children who are pupils at Nangili primary school had visited their grandmother Maria Shayi during this April holiday before they met their death.
“These children stay with their mother in Nangili, Kongoni sub location and they had visited their grandmother in Mmbasu village before they met their death,” Lugado.
Lugado has urged parents living near rivers and streams to be extra careful with their children and not to allow them to play near the rivers or streams.
The two bodies were removed by officers from Likuyani police station and taken to Kimbilio funeral home in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu county.
