As KCSE examination kicked off today in the country, more girls will sit their examinations as compared to boys in Trans Nzoia County.
Among the registered candidates 24,365 in the county, 13,091 are girls while 11,274 are boys with 246 examination centers.
While addressing the media, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang stated that the improvement in girl’s enrollment was influenced by parents as well as all the stakeholders advocating for Girls Rights towards education and the positive attitude of parents as well as
students themselves in embracing education especially for the Girl Child.
He however appealed to the society not to shun away from advocating issues affecting Boy Child so that he remains relevant in the society noting that more emphasis has been put on a Girl Child leaving behind the Boy Child.
The County Commissioner however issued stern warning to politicians making noise in form of campaigns around schools calling upon them to respect the candidates doing examinations for this season noting that
whoever will be found hovering around the school while making noise his or her instruments will be confiscated
As examinations continue, a candidate at St Joseph’s national school is not sitting his examinations as he was unavailable. According to the school principal Godfrey Owori, failure of the candidate to report was necessitated by his parents who separated last year making one parent, a mother to pick his son from their home.
Three have indiscipline cases and doing their examinations out of school as they were involved in fighting.
However, the County Commissioner said those students with indiscipline cases will be allowed to sit for examinations but not mingle with others during the rest of examinations period.
Eight candidates from Bikeke Girls secondary school are among candidates who will sit examinations without mingling with others under circumstances of trying to torch their school last year.
