Former Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale has dropped his gubernatorial bid in favour of Senator Cleophas Malala in a deal that was brokered by the Deputy President William Ruto.
Khalwale will be vying for senatorial seat on a UDA ticket and Malala will be vying on ANC party both under Kenya Kwanza.
Others who will be contesting for Kakamega gubernatorial seat include; Kenya Electricity Transmission Company CEO Fernandez Barasa on ODM, Deputy Governor Prof. Philip Kutima on DAP-K, Major Suleiman Sumba on KANU ticket, former Cabinet Minister Amukowa Anangwe, Sam Omukoko of Metropol, businessmen Michael Osundwa and Leonard Shimaka.
During the announcement at DP’s residence the following leaders were present; ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula, and MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula) Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Aden Duale (Garissa Township) and Kakamega Majority Leader Joel Ongoro.
