Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party director of communications Philip Akunda Etale has withdrawn his candidature for Lugari parliamentary seat in the August 9th general elections.
Speaking to West Media Etale had already started his campaign to succeed current MP Ayub Savula who has declared his interest in the Kakamega county gubernatorial seat, said he took the move after a lengthy deliberation with his party leader and presidential hopeful Raila Amollo Odinga.
He said the move will give him an ample time to work for the party to ensure it emerges victorious by clinching the presidency as well as majority of seats in other elective posts.
“I really respect my party leader and mentor Raila Amollo Odinga and I just want to work hard together with other ODM team and our partners in Azimio la Umoja Movement ensure ‘Baba’ becomes the fifth president,” said Etale.
However the communication’s director said his withdrawal from this year’s elections doesn’t mean that he is completely out the Lugari politics saying he will vie for the seat in ODMfuture and ensure his development dreams for Lugari residents is realized.
He seized the opportunity to apologize to his supporter who might feel disappointed by his move.
“I know there are those who will feel disappointed by this move, I must say I’m really sorry but I will be back in the race in 2027 God willing and we will make our dreams come true,” concluded Etale.
