The Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (K.C.P.E) 2021 examination container opening and materials distribution in West Pokot County kicked off today at 6.00am in Kapenguria without hitches.
The County security team, led by West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello was present to supervise the exercise noting that security has been beefed up in the whole county.
He cited that security officers have been deployed in hot spot areas along the West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet borders.
“I want to give an assurance that we have adequate security personnel and extra security officers who are undertaking patrol in troubled areas. We don’t expect any problem or any challenge during this exercise,” said Mr Okello.
Mr. Okello wished candidates success adding that they have been well prepared.
“We hope that they will perform well,”he said.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that all the necessary preparations have been put in place to ensure humble time for the candidates all over the County.
West Pokot Sub County Education Director Charles Imanyara said the examination materials distribution started well without any hitches.
A total number of 4150 candidates Mr. Imanyara said are sitting for the KCPE examination in 165 schools in the County.
“We have few girls, 2100 sitting for the exam. We have the private sector where 25 candidates are doing exams in Makutamo primary,” he said.
Mr. Imanyara said that there are no challenges of weather in the area as it has been in the past years because there is no rainfall at the moment.
“We are not witnessing heavy rainfall in the area and it may come on the third day,” he said.
“Center managers collected exam materials,” he said.
Imanyara said that there are enough vehicles to distribute the examination materials.
“Some candidates are doing examinations in other schools according to KNEC plans,” he said.
He cited that pregnancy cases in the County have gone down.
“We laud Chiefs , ACCs, parents and teachers for the sensitization they have done,” said Mr Imanyara.
