Two police officers and a co-operative union manager are nursing injuries at Eldoret Referral hospital after sustaining serious injuries during a shoot out incident in Kimilili town of Bungoma County.
Kimilili OCPD Mwita Marwa says the suspected attackers trailed the vehicle from Co operative bank in Bungoma where the money had been collected to Kimilili where coffee farmers were to receive their payment saying they ambushed and overpowered the police officers in escort and made away with the loot.
He disclosed that the injured were in critical condition and had to be referred to Eldoret Referral hospital saying the police have launched a manhunt of the suspects who escaped after the incident.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa who arrived at the scene of the incident called upon the police to be vigilant in carrying their duties saying it is unfortunate that the incident took place a few meters from the police station and police camp yet the thugs managed to get away.
He decried increased incidences of insecurity in the constituency saying the police have over time been concentrating on curbing local brews at the expense of the security of residents.
