United Democratic party like other parties is facing an uphill over nominations process which are to be conducted tomorrow especially in Tongaren constituency where some aspirants are up in arms after some rumors doing rounds on social media that some politicians have already been given nomination certificates.
Addressing journalists today at Dicece offices at Mukuyuni market in Tongaren constituency, aspirants led by Sebastian Kikuyu Mukuzi who is seeking to unseat Dr. Eseli Simiyu on the UDA party have rubbished the method some party officials have taken to handle nominations after it was said that nominations will be done in a boardroom where the candidates of various seats will be interviewed by a national elections board set by the party organ.
“We cannot allow a few individuals seating in a hotel somewhere to decide the destiny of our people who our party leader has always endowed among them mama mboga, bodaboda and other hustlers, we must have clear roadmap of the party nominations and the only way is through the ballot where a people preferred candidate will be chosen to carry the party ticket on 9th August 2022.” Asserted Mukuzi
He threatened that any other way will bring down the roaring party that has always enjoyed massive followers because people have a belief of the ballot to choose their candidate.
“Our party leader has always promised free and fair nominations and that should not just be a talk but should be exercised on the ground where the people are allowed to participate in the nominations,” he added.
He promised to be on the ballot regardless of what happens and promised his followers that he will give direction after the process of nominations has been completed and appealed to them to be patient.
He took a swipe at Ford Kenya party for interfering with UDA nominations and asked the party leader of Ford Kenya who is also Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetangula and a Kenya Kwanza principal and his party to keep off UDA nominations as they are independent parties only tied at the Presidency position which they have one candidate in the name of Dr. William Ruto.
His sentiments were echoed by other ward aspirants who criticized Ford Kenya for allegedly interfering with the nominations and said they will not take it lightly adding that if UDA nominations will not be carried out then they will chat their destiny by first abandoning the party and going independent.
” We will not take it lightly, we have worked hard to publicize UDA in our various wards and we have used our own resources to prepare for nominations and it’s painful that the party has not communicated anything up to now and the nominations are supposed to be done tomorrow, what is really happening? We cannot be culprits of another party just because it’s in our coalition, we will have the nominations whether they like it or not, “vowed UDA ward aspirants from Tongaren constituency.
This comes after rumors doing rounds that Kenya Kwanza has settled on Dr. Murumba Chikati of Ford Kenya as their preferred candidate to face Dr. Eseli Simiyu of DAP-K in Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya in forthcoming elections.
However, Mbakalo ward MCA Bethwel Mwambu who is also seeking UDA ticket for Tongaren constituency while addressing mourners in his ward said the UDA party has settled on him and there will be no nominations and therefore requested other aspirants to support him .
