The Kenya Revenue Authority officers from Kisumu and Malaba in Busia County on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with members of the Fourth Estate after they paid a visit to the Malaba One Stop Boarder Post (OSBP).

The mission of the meeting was to sensitize the press on the operations around the OSBP.

Led by the Kenya Revenue Authority Western Region Coordinator Pamela Ahago they said plans to expand the OSBP are already underway adding that they have enough human resource to accomplish the task.

Mrs. Ahago said the traffic congestion that was witnessed sometimes back was as a result of the Corona Virus pandemic where certification especially in the neighboring Uganda was a must for truck drivers to allow them continue with their journey. “Uganda is a sovereign country and there was nothing we could do to change that,” she said

She however, said the flow of the trucks is now back to normal.

On his part, the Malaba customs manager Kang’ethe Kimani said they’re sensitizing the public on the dangers of engaging in ” black'” business on the border such as smuggling, urging residents to embrace the OSBP instead.

”We are really trying to discourage the use of these illegal roots by our residents, they have contributed in tax evasion thus affecting our economy, he said adding that they are also discouraging smuggling by all means.
