Busia Gubernatorial hopeful Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma’s dream of becoming the second Busia County Governor received a major boost on Monday after former Teso North Member of the National Assembly Arthur Odera formerly accepted to be his running mate in the forth coming elections.
The duo were unanimously endorsed by among others, the elders, teacher’s unions and the clergy drawn mainly from Teso North constituency, to run for Busia County top office in a colourful event held at Achiya Echakara Secondary school in Teso North constituency.
The chairman of the Teso council of Elders Wycliffe Oprong read the resolutions arrived at in the meeting.
One of the resolutions reached was that Odera will become Otuoma’s running mate with portfolio.
“We have decided to offer you our son Hon. Odera. But should you win the seat, our own must be your Deputy with portfolio.” Said Imwene Ichasi, former Malaba North Member of the County Assembly.
He also wanted Dr. Otuoma to assure the Iteso community that he would not frustrate Odera once they assume office.
In his speech, Dr. Otuoma urged the Iteso community to dispel rumors and propaganda originating from different quarters that he was hellbent on retaliating against the community once in office for unknown reasons.
” There has been a lot of propaganda on social media that my plan is to ensure members of the Iteso community currently working in the County government are punished for unknown reasons.” He wondered, ”This is coming from leaders who want to sow seeds of discord among the residents of Busia County for their own selfish gains,” he added
He however, warned that he would not tolerate laziness and corruption among the county government staff once they form the next government.
Also present were Budalangi MP Rafael Wanjala, Nangina MCA John Obuogo and a cross section of leaders.
