Kakamega County Senator Cleophas Malala who is also the gubernatorial aspirant has come out strongly to oppose how Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is running the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).

Speaking in Butali during a graduation ceremony for teachers at Malava Complex, Malala said it is sad that the County government is paying CBD cleaners a sum of Kenya shillings fifteen thousand whilst ECDE teachers employed by the county government get  Ksh 8,000.

“Why is the County government paying town sweepers Kenya shillings fifteen thousand while you are getting Kenya shillings eight thousand only? Who can access a loan with such a salary?” Malala asked

Malala also faulted Governor Oparanya for hiring the teachers on a one year contract; a move that he says has destabilized the pupils and the teachers too.

“Why should you be hired for 12 months when the pupil is just getting to know you and your services are terminated?” He wondered.

Senator Malala who is vying for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat has promised to make changes in the education sector starting with the ECDE programme by employing teachers on permanent and pensionable scheme just like the Teachers Service Commission.

Among other changes he is promising in the education sector is not to politicize the bursary allocation programme by giving the area Members of County Assembly  to handle the cases but instead deal with school principals and institutions who clearly can tell needy cases.
