Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing has alleged that Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been funding conflict along West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet County borders.
Pkosing said there is some evidence that Murkomen is the cause of conflict along the border hence urged the government to investigate it and appealed to Senator Murkomen to desist from causing conflict along the border.
He said the reason why Murkomen is inciting locals is to get more votes and he has nothing to ride on in terms of development that’s why he is busy noise and trouble making in order to get votes.
He noted that most leaders are looking for favour hoping it should not extend to sacrificing people’s lives urging locals to ignore incitement from such leaders and live peacefully.
He said the speech of Murkomen while in West Pokot has directly fueled the banditry attacks along the border between the two communities urging him to desist from abusing West Pokot leaders.
“Murkomen must stop his abuses, if he stops there will be no conflict along the border.” He said.
Pkosing asked other leaders to campaign peacefully hence warned other leaders from outside the County who usually visit the County and abuse leaders instead of doing peaceful campaigns.
Pkosing was speaking at Chepareria after being cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to defend his seat for the third time as Pokot South MP under Kenya Union Party (KUP).
Pkosing defended his track record citing that he had done tremendously well to be elected for the third time.
He said he is in Azimio La Umoja and being the treasurer, their Presidential candidate Raila Odinga will get more votes from West Pokot County.
“My people are in the winning government and when we get government I will be the Minister for Finance.” He said.
However, Kapenguria Constituency MP Aspirant Nicholas Siwatom also condemned the frequent killings along the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties.
He said insecurity along the borders has derailed development and if elected he will focus on education to eradicate cattle rustling.
“I have a great objective for the people of Kapenguria. Alot of our people have not gone to school knowing that over 60 percent of CDF funds should focus on education.” He said.
He noted that for the last five years the current MP Samuel Moroto has not delivered on education agenda.
“That’s why we find youths causing chaos along the border because are not educated.” He cited.
He urged other aspirant s to conduct peaceful campaigns desist from abusing others and respect everyone’s opportunity to campaign and sell their agenda.
Siwatom was cleared by IEBC to contest for Kapenguria parliamentary seat under Safina party.
He ditched UDA and joined Safina party some few days before UDA nominations alleging that the party had shelved conducting nominations in Kapenguria Constituency and the current MP had already bought the ticket.
