Tindiret Member of Parliament Julius Melly has faulted some of the senior government officials participating in political campaigns saying they are going against the law and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) together with other bodies should take an immediate action against the victims.
Speaking in his Constituency after presenting his nomination papers to IEBC for clearance where he was cleared to vie for Tindiret paliarmentary seat, Melly blamed the ICT Minister Joe Mucheru and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for participating in multi-agency team campaigns.
“A number of government senior officials have always participated in multi-agency team trying to really influence elections towards time and IEBC should take a stand.” He lamented.
The legislator cited that any government official is not allowed by the law to engage in any kind of politics unless he or she steps down but if not they are supposed to be neutral.
“When they are ministers, they are supposed to be neutral not to involve in politics but the two ministers have been seen in public campaigning for the Azimio La Umoja brigade which is very wrong.” He added.
He maintained that Kenya Kwanza team will win August General Elections in round one thus asked the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati to assure Kenyans of free and fair elections without any interference from the influential wave.
Kenyans should come out in large numbers on the voting day and choose leaders wisely as it is their democratic right to elect their leaders of choice.
He lauded the IEBC for clearing him to vie for the parliamentary seat saying he will win as he is the only MP who came out of the party nominations successfully.
Nandi Woman Representative Dr. Tecla Tum who is vying for Emgwen parliamentary seat on an independent ticket was also cleared with the IEBC for the post.
