As the world marked the World Environmental Day, residents of Bungoma County have been called upon to be fully involved in conserving the environment through planting of trees especially the indigenous ones.
Kimaeti farmers association chairman Shadrack Masika during the commemoration said the venture has many advantages not only to the residents but the environment at large.
He said they have been able to help members of the association plant trees since 2009 and in the end through World Bank they have in the end benefited a lot through carbon gestation as they are paid through the data collected.
Beth Omae from Pelam Kenya who is the zonal co coordinator in charge of Rift and Western Kenya participatory ecological and land use management said they have involved the community and school children to sensitize on ways of conserving the environment.
She called upon the government to get involved more in conserving the environment saying funding has been the main challenge for many in achieving their targets.
Robert Sawa who is the director in charge of natural resources in the County government of Bungoma expressed optimism in achieving the 10 per cent forest cover in the country.
