New cracks threatening the unity of Kenya Kwanza are emerging in Kakamega County as candidates in the Deputy President William Ruto’s coalition engage in campaigns of aspirants in the opposing Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
Senator Cleophas Malala and Dr. Boni Khalwale clashed recently in Matungu Constituency during a Kenya Kwanza rally after Dr. Khalwale directed voters to, only vote for him, and choose the best leader as their governor.
This led to supporters of Sen. Malala ejecting the Bullfighter from their rallies with a team of youth who were attending the Kenya Kwanza event announcing to support and campaign for ODM Senatorial candidate Brian Lishenga.

In Mumias East Constituency, the sibling rivalry between UDA and ANC saw the ANC parliamentary candidate David Wamatsi instructing his supporters to back ODM Presidential candidate Raila Odinga claiming Ruto’s UDA leaders in the Constituency were opposing Malala, who is the Kenya Kwanza governor candidate on ANC ticket from campaigning for him.
“If they don’t want Malala to campaign for me in ANC, then Benjamin Washiali, who is Ruto’s campaign manager in Western region and Khalwale, who is vying to recapture the Senate seat, should also stop campaigning for Benson Mapwoni, the UDA parliamentary candidate,” said Wamatsi.
The internal wrangles within the Ruto coalition, if not checked are likely to cost them the desired victory in favour of Azimio.
