Kakamega Homeboys hopes of winning their maiden KPL title were crashed on Saturday after Kariobangi sharks failed to turn up at Mumias complex stadium.
This was the final fixture for Homeboys whereby a massive win would have won them their first KPL silverware. Homeboys were awarded two goals by the match officials hence finishing second with 63 points.
Tusker clinched their 13th KPL title after crashing Postal rangers 2-0 during a thrilling encounter at Ruaraka grounds. Goals from Shaphan Oyugi and Jackson Macharia helped Robert Matano’s side to bask in glory for another KPL season.
“It has been a tough season. Our intense rivalry with Kakamega Homeboys took the title contention to the wire and we thank them for being our worthy opponents,” Matano said.
Tusker won the title after achieving a healthier goal difference than Kakamega Homeboys. Both teams were tied at 63 points but a goal difference of 4 goals separated them.
In other final day fixtures, Ulinzi edged Sofapaka 1-0 at Moi stadium Kasarani as Kenya Police FC thrashed Coastal side Bandari at Nyayo stadium.
AFC Leopards suffered a 3-1 loss to Nzoia at Sudi stadium while Wazito earned a walkover after Vihiga bullets failed to honour their final day fixtures.
