The County Government of Bungoma under the Ministry of Education has been called upon to act with speed to clear school fees for the form one students who benefited from the County Scholarship program.
The MCAs led by Lwandanyi Ward Member of County Assembly Tony Khaoya Barasa says as Bungoma County Assembly MCAs they fully supported the scholarship initiative to help children from poor families to access education.
“As MCAs we agreed to support Governor Wangamati’s initiative and we set aside more than Ksh 400M so that our children can also become Doctors, Professors, Engineers.” Barasa said.
He added that some parents are in dilemma after the County Government picked more than 7000 students on the program in 2022 but only admitted them with letters minus school fees.
Hon. Barasa urged the concerned department to release the money to schools so that the children can continue with their learning programs without being sent home every time.
“It’s time for the Ministry of Education to write cheques because I know the money is there, school principals are having hard time to run schools.” He added.
Barasa alleged that the money budgeted for scholarship has been diverted to spearhead campaigns for County boss, saying they will not accept that.
