With regard to the recent incident that occurred on Saturday 30th July, 2022 when the United Democratic Party Bungoma County gubernatorial candidate Zacharia Barasa was attacked by a group of youths at Mukuyuni in Tongaren Constituency, a number of candidates eyeing the Tongaren seat have come out in mass to condemn the incident emphasizing on the need to embrace peace as the nation gears towards the August 9th General Elections.
Speaking to West Media in Tongaren ward led by Silas Musakali of United Democratic party, Kennedy Murunga of Jubilee and David Chekombe an independent candidate, they have condemned the incident calling upon the youths not to be used by a number of politicians who are fond of causing havoc and discord when the nation prepares for the upcoming General Elections.
They however blamed Ford Kenya candidate John Murumba Chikati, allleging that his supporters, youths attacked the gubernatorial candidate at Mukuyuni in Tongaren calling upon locals to avoid such leaders who are set to disrupt peace during this campaign season.
The race for Tongaren Constituency seat seems to be taking a different direction with a number of politicians using the youths to attack their competitors and cause tension to voters as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC looks forward to conducting general elections in a week’s time.
The constituency has fourteen candidates eyeing the parliamentary seat with high competition arising from the current Member of Parliament Dr. Eseli Simiyu and the Ford Kenya candidate John Murumba Chikati who seem to be giving each other sleepless nights.
