Police in Matete are holding in custody a 31 year old man for killing his 26 year old wife in Chimoi village in Lwandeti location in the wee hours of Friday morning.
According to the acting Lwandeti location chief Mr. Thomas Luvonga, the suspect Jacob Mutevesi Barasa returned home very late in the night and confronted his wife Melvin Namisi where they engaged in a fight leading to the murder.
“I received information from members of the public that there was a man who had killed his wife, I rushed to the scene where I confirmed the incident before alerting the police,” said the chief.
He said the suspect killed his wife by hitting him with a hammer and a piece of wood which were found inside the house with blood stains.
“The body had serious visible injuries on the head and fingers after being smashed using the hammer,” said the local administrator, adding that the two have been in regular feud.
Police managed to rescue the suspect from an angry mob that was baying for his blood and took him to Matete police station where he is being held as investigations go on before being arraigned in court.
The body was removed from the scene and taken Webuye Sub County hospital mortuary
