Five people among them five children aged between 16 and 17 years were arrested following a crackdown conducted by Kongoni location chief Peter Lugano against illicit brew, idlers and drug and substance abuse within Furfural area in Likuyani Sub County.
Chief Lugano who was accompanied by Kongoni Sub location assistant chief and a team of village elders and nyumba kumi officials led the crackdown after chairing the location security meeting following increased cases of insecurity in the area.
He said among those arrested were two boys aged 17, one aged 16 and one girl aged 16 who were allegedly nabbed in their hideout taking drugs at the bank of Furfural stream.
Also arrested was Elizabeth Kibisu an illicit brewer who was found with five liters of chang’aa. Another brewer Esther Nanjala managed to escape but 7 liters of chang’aa were found in her compound.

The official destroyed all brewing apparatus in Nanjala’s compound with those arrested being booked at Matunda police station.

During the crackdown, all suspicious tenants were asked to go back to their place of residence and bring recommendation letters from their respective assistant chiefs.
