Kakamega  Deputy Governor elect Ayub Savula who was among major critics of President elect Dr. William Ruto ahead of the August 9th General Elections has defended his move alleging that he was arrested with his family and intimidated by state agents for supporting Ruto’s Presidential bid and forced to join Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition against his will.

Addressing mourners in Lumakanda, Lugari constituency, Savula said immediately after the 2017 General Elections, he joined a bandwagon that was supporting Dr. William Ruto’s Presidential bid but shortly after, he was arrested together with his two wives as a way of intimidating him.

“I was arrested at 2 am in a hotel, the same night my two wives were arrested, one at 3 am and another at 5am, on allegations that we had stolen Kshs. 1.5 billion from government, later it turned out that the government had no evidence to support the case,” said Savula adding that the same government alleged that he had not remitted tax amounting to Kshs. 0.5 billion to Kenya revenue authority, and they froze his accounts to pin him down.

Savula has called on the President elect Dr. William Ruto to embrace everyone if he is to steer the country in the right direction.

“You don’t have to be vengeful to those who wronged you, seek prayers and have a forgiving heart.” Savula reiterated, adding that the era where state security organs were being used to intimidate leaders and box them into submission is long gone.

He said he is ready and willing to work closely with the Ruto’s administration in fostering the development agenda of Kakamega County and the nation at large, calling on the electorates to be vigilant and follow closely the performance of their leaders so that when elections are called, they may be able to choose a leader based on his development record.
