Primary School girls in Nandi are benefiting from free re-usable sanitary pads courtesy of a donation from a non-Governmental Organization partnering with the County Government of Nandi.

The County Public Relations Officer Mr. Remmy Butia while speaking to Journalists during the distribution exercise in Tindiret Sub-County said after realizing that the girls often skipped/missed school every month because they could not afford pads, is when he embarked on a mission to provide cheaper options available to girls from disadvantaged families in the region.

Butia cited that the initiative so far since its inception has distributed over two hundred and fifty re-usable sanitary towels to vulnerable school going girls in Tindiret and Mosop Sub-Counties and is targeting to reach out to over seven hundred girls across Nandi who are really in need.

“We are partnering with Huru International to help give girls hope by equipping and empowering them with skills.” He noted.

Butia confirmed that the initiative so far has benefited over 250 girls each getting soap, a pair of pads and a pant which to him will allow the girl child be in school yearly because the re-usable towels can be used for a period of eighteen months.

Re-usable pads provide an affordable alternative for girls from low income families compared to a pack of disposable sanitary pads which are very expensive therefore is a better option and choice to many needy young girls to go for the re-usable ones.

The PRO has called on well-wishers and other Non Governmental Organizations to join hands together through collaboration in saving a needy girl by donating sanitary pads to keep them in school throughout.
