Trans Nzoia County Deputy Governor, Philomenah Bineah Kapkory led County residents in marking World Contraceptive Day at the Endebbes Sub-County Hospital.
She called upon all people in the reproductive age bracket to embrace the use of contraceptives noting its manifold benefits.
She underscored the social economic and health merits that include reduction of maternal death and disability, reduced newborn/ child mortality and morbidity and avoidance of unwanted pregnancies. She also stated that the use of contraceptives allow parents to effectively plan for their children in advance.
“Family planning does not in any way prohibit you from siring the number of children that you desire but it only allows you to do the right spacing and this allows you to plan for the children better upfront.” She stated
She also observed that women who plan for their families have more opportunities to realize their potential including, pursuing their careers and contributing to the economy hence realizing a stable and equitable society.
Pointing out that universal access to contraceptives is paramount; she noted that unless this is achieved, women’s empowerment and gender equality will remain elusive.
The Deputy Governor reiterated the County administration’s commitment to enhance health care services even as she disclosed community health volunteers will soon start receiving stipends.
