Former Tongaren Member of Parliament Dr. David Eseli Simiyu has faulted National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula with Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka for failing to support the enactment of the 2019 sugar bill in the Senate.

Addressing DAP-K delegates at his residence in Makhanga village, the retired military major noted that the duo failed to support enactment of the Wamunyinyi sugar bill in the Senate, which sought to reinstate the role of the Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) in regulating, developing, and promoting the sugar industry besides enabling equitable access to the benefits derived from the industry.

Dr. Eseli noted that it is saddening how the sugar sector has lacked a regulatory body to fight for the well being of sugar cane growers, even as they continue suffering exploitation from sugar factories and emphasized on the need for the elected leaders to fight for the stabilization of the sugar sector in the Republic.

His sentiments were echoed by former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi who noted that for quite some time; the sugar sector in Kenya has been neglected citing that the bill sought to cushion farmers from exploitation from sugar factories.

On the upcoming Senatorial by- elections, Wamunyinyi urged Speaker Moses Wetangula to stop imposing his long term personal assistant Wafula Wakoli on locals in Bungoma to be elected as the Senator emphasizing on the need for citizens being granted an opportunity to elect a leader of their choice.

Wamunyinyi who is eyeing the Senatorial seat on Azimio ticket, urged locals in Bungoma to embrace maturity in electing who will ensure proper oversight and contribute to realization of development in the next five years.

With regard to the move by UDA lawmaker Salah Yakub pledging to sponsor a motion to extend presidential term, Eseli and Wamunyinyi slammed the move asking President William Ruto to concentrate on matters affecting common citizens as far as the cost of living is concerned and other national matters of importance.
