Lugari Deputy County Commissioner Moses Gicharu has decried the poor standards of education in the Sub-County.
Speaking at Majengo in Lumakanda ward during the inauguration of Edwin Nashirobe and Everline Lutatwa as the new chief and assistant chief for the newly created Mwamba location and Mugunga sub location respectively, Gicharu challenged stakeholders to work out ways of improving the performance of the Sub County in national examinations.
“In fact, something that I am very sad about is the state of education here in Lugari. I would like to emphasize and advise all parents and education stakeholders to try to work hard so that we can improve our education standards,’’ said Gicharu.
The DCC said education was a right for every Kenyan child according to the constitution adding that it is the only transferable asset a parent can give to his or her child and help him or her in future.
He advised parents to be involved in their children’s education and desist from entirely abdicating the responsibility to teachers.
His sentiments were echoed by the Sub County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu who challenged parents to invest in the education of their children in a bid to empower and improve their livelihoods.
The police boss said parents should gift their children with good education so as to uplift societal values.
He said parents had the obligation of ensuring the children are educated and encouraged to nurture their talents in school for future opportunities.
“We must encourage our children to take their education seriously and give them the best opportunities whenever possible,” said Ngungu.
Elsewhere Gicharu reiterated that the ban of molasses business was still on until the regulation put in place by the Sub County security team were adhered to.
He said molasses had been identified as major raw material for illicit brew and will not be allowed to be sold in the area without being regulated.
He said most of the traders were selling it in pretence that it was being used for animal feeds.
“Those pretending that its used for animal feeds, we want to see those animals then the chief or assistant chief can sign to allow you apply for a license from Sugar Directorate. Without the license you’ll not be allowed to do molasses business in Lugari,” said the DCC.
He cautioned locals against selling illicit brew and called on Chiefs and their Assistants to liaise with the police to arrest the culprits.
He advised those involved in the sale of drugs and illegal brews to look for alternative legal businesses to uplift their livelihoods.
“We have many genuine businesses that can be done,” he said.
On their part, Edwin and Everline promised to serve residents in accordance with law without favour or biasness.
