646,598 Bungoma voters are expected to participate in the Senatorial by-election tomorrow 8th December, 2022 to elect their second Senator since devolution.
The Senatorial seat has attracted 11 candidates on various parties who are; Moses Mwambu Mabonga of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Atanas Wafula Wamunyinyi of Azimio, David Wafula Wakoli of Ford Kenya (FK), Robert Sifuna of Roots Party, Aaron Wafula of Republican Liberty Party, Fredrick Busolo of Vibrant Democratic Party, Elias Sikulu of People’s Empowerment Party, Geoffrey Wanyonyi of NOPEU-P, Raidon Munoko, Julius Masinde and Enock Makokha Independent candidates respectively.

There have been vigorous campaigns across the County since Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission –IEBC announced the date of by-election early October after the seat was declared vacant.
The Bungoma Senatorial seat became vacant after the Senator that was elected in the August polls; Moses Wetangula was elected the Speaker of the National Assembly.
The by-election will be conducted in 806 polling stations in 9 Constituencies across the County.
According to IEBC all polling stations will be opened at 6am and closed at 5pm.
This is the second time Bungoma voters are participating in the Senatorial by-election after the 2013 General election where Wetangula’s victory was challenged in the Court by Musikari Kombo and was nullified citing massive irregularities and was not free and fair but Wetangula clinched the seat again and became the first Bungoma Senator.
Elsewhere, Nuclear ward residents in Mumias West Constituency in Kakamega County will be electing their MCA tomorrow after the election was postponed due to the death of one candidate before the August polls.
