Former County Secretary for Nandi Mr. Francis Ominde has dismissed the recent Auditor general’s report information that revealed that between the years 2013 and 2017, the County government lost Kshs 12b which was claimed to have paid to ghost workers.

Speaking to Journalists, Ominde dismissed the audit report saying it was not based on the facts as recorded in the National Government treasury for five years.

He cited that the County government by then under the tenure of the first Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat had a manageable wage bill and that the reports that Nandi had 3,000 ghost workers is ill intended to tarnish the name of the former Governor for political reasons.

He stated that the Executive spent Kshs 13b for five years whereby the Governor and his Deputy earned a salary of Kshs 650,000 and Kshs 580,000 per month while the CECs earned less than Kshs 250,000 per month which was manageable.

“I want to state categorically that there were neither ghost workers nor employees who could not be accounted for by the administration during our regime as purported by media reports. The information going round is misleading the public and the official in charge of Human resource thus I as the former County Scretary I urge the public to ignore and treat it as malice.” He affirmed.

His sentiments come amid sacking of six revenue County officers by the new CEC finance Hillary Serem on allegations of engaging in fraud. This is in a move to boost its revenue generations after the County boss asked the CEC to streamline the Department and ensure rogue revenue officials are kicked out of office.
