The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations kicked of well in Lugari Sub County with a total of 3,266 candidates sitting the examination in 35 centers with center managers who are the respective secondary schools’ principals being instructed to ensure the Kenya National Examination Council guidelines are strictly adhered to throughout the examination period.
Addressing the center Managers who had turned up to collect examination papers at Lumakanda, Lugari Deputy County Commissioner Moses Gicharu said rules that prohibit the use of mobile phones should be strictly observed during the ongoing examinations.
Gicharu said during examination time, the principals are supposed to keep the mobile phones for the entire team supervising exams including those for security officers.
The DCC directed the center managers to ensure no one uses the mobile phone
around examination areas but only be used at designated points away if need be.
“Your entire team supervising and guarding exams are mandated to give you their mobile phones and the should be kept in office until the time the exam is over,” said the DCC told
He warned that those who will not comply with the directive should be reported to relevant authorities for immediate action to be taken against them.
“Please those who decline to give you their phones please let me know immediately so that I take action,” emphasized Gicharu revealing that smartphones, because of their quickness and ability to send even large data, can be used by certain people to steal exams and distort students who are ready to do their exams.
The DCC noted that the entire examination team including his office were committed to ensure credibility of this year’s national exams is not lost.
He told the center managers to ensure the KNEC rules are never compromised so that they don’t fall into trouble.
At the same time John Wepoghe, the Sub-County Teachers Service Commission Director asked the Principals who are in charge of exam centers to report any drunkard invigilating teacher.
Wepoghe said that they will not tolerate any drunkard exam team players. He added that teachers were fully aware of the consequences awaiting such drunkard teachers.
“I ask you to help us identify those teachers who appear in exam centers while intoxicated so that we can replace them,” he said.
