Bungoma Health and Sanitation CEC Andrew Wamalwa has warned health workers engaging in alcoholism at work places saying it was compromising service delivery.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kenya Union of Nurses Bungoma County branch on Wednesday, Wamalwa decried that the use of Alcohol and other substances at work places compromised service delivery.
“We are concerned with a section of health workers who have become addicted and consume alcohol even at work places; this is unethical and we call upon them to stop this behavior.” He warned
Dr. Wamalwa added, “We committed ourselves to work, there is no other work we have been employed to perform apart from what we are trained in offering health services to the patients, using drugs and substances make the professional look a laughing stalk.”
He committed to ensure drastic changes in the health ministry so that it is ranked the best.
The CEC reminded health staff workers to adhere to the code of conduct lest they are disciplined.
He further implored on the Union officials to mentor others and make them better persons in the service.
He said the County government has an intention to employ more health workers while promoting those already in service .
During the meeting, the union officials presented their memorandum to the CEC who promised to address them in phases.
“Apart from being union officials, you are also our employees, guard your jobs as you fight for your rights,” he told union members.
Present during the meeting was the County Medical Director Dr. Caleb Watta who urged the union members to fight for growth in terms of promotions and salary increments so that it can better their financial status.
