Counties have threatened to bring to a standstill all operations by next week if the national government will not have released all the pending Equitable Share of Revenue owed to them for the last three months.
Speaking in Kakamega, the Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa who is also the Chairman of the Council of Governors Committee on Finance, Planning & Economic Affairs says the National treasury is yet to release funds for the period between March and May 2023 amounting to Shs 94.4 billion.
“Governor Barasa revealed that they will be meeting as CoG, next week to assess on the possibility to shut down business in all the 47 counties.
“The National Treasury has reneged on the promise for timely release of funds and ensure full absorption by counties, how do they expect the counties to make use of the funds before the end of the financial year?” Barasa questioned.
The Governor was speaking at a ceremony to fete County revenue officers for realizing enhanced collections in the last Financial Year.
