President William Ruto has on the recommendation of the Public Service Commission nominated Dr.Kamau Thugge, CBS for appointment of the Governor of Central Bank of Kenya ( CBK).
Through a press release by the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, Felix Koskei, If Dr. Thugge’s appointment will be approved by the National Assembly, then he will be the tenth Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, taking over from Dr. Patrick N. Njoroge, CBS who has served the nation as the ninth Governor since 2015 and who is statutorily ineligible for reappointment.
The nomination follows a competitive recruitment process carried out by the Public Service Commission.
Dr. Thugge has a Doctoral Degree in Economics from John Hopkins University in Maryland, USA. He has also had a long and successful career at the International Monetary Fund ( IMF) from 1985-2010 where he served in the positions of Economist, Senior Economist and Deputy Division Chief.
He was also among the team that designed Kenya’s current fiscal decentralization system following the advent of devolution.
He has also served as the Principal Secretary in the National Treasury, a position he served from 2013-2019.
The Head of State has forwarded his name to the National Assembly for approval.
The position of CBK Governor attracted 24 applicants but only six were shortlisted who included; Dorcas Muthoni Mutonyi, Haron Sirima, Edward Sambili, Nancy Onyango, Adan Abdulla Mohamed and Kamau Thugge.
