Grief has gripped Koromait village, Chekalini location in Lugari Sub County after the body of a 65 year old man was discovered in his house under unclear circumstances.
According to the deceased’s uncle Julius Kataka, the body of Stephen Okutoyi Atsali was discovered by a relative who had visited him adding that he lived alone in the compound after separating with his wife.
“This is my nephew and he has been living here alone after separating with his wife over five years ago, his children also abandoned him and moved elsewhere. His body was discovered by one of his nephews who had come to visit him,” said Kataka.
He said the deceased was last seen at Koromait trading center on Saturday evening and had not complained of any illness before his body was discovered in the house.
Confirming the incident, Chekalini location chief Julius Mpapale said the body had no visible injuries adding that the cause of his death had not been established.
He however regretted that the man had been abandoned by his family and was living under the mercy of neighbors and well wishers.
He appealed to the members of the public to respect and take care of the elderly in their respective families.
The body was removed from the scene and taken to a mortuary in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County as police launched investigations into the incident.
