As the National Assembly is expected to debate, deliberate and make changes to the 2023/24 proposed budget bill before it is formally read by the Minister for Finance at the end of June this year, the opposition leadership has strongly come out to oppose the proposed bill saying it will entirely harden the life Kenyans through the proposed high taxation.
In the speech to the press read by the leader of opposition Raila Odinga on behalf of other opposition leaders, they condemned in totality the Kenya Kwanza government under leadership of His Excellency President Dr. William Ruto for burdening Kenyans with more taxations at the time when they are already being suffocated by high cost of living and low salary pay.
The opposition chief among other issues mentioned the taxation directed on innovative business community who get their income through social media. He said the taxation on salaries of civil servants who travel either within the country or outside are among the sectors going to be affected by the proposed budget bill. He assured Kenyans that lawmakers from his side will oppose the bill and use all means to ensure it doesn’t see the light of the day.
However, the opposition leadership has proposed alternative ways in which the Kenya Kwanza government can use to run the economy of the country without necessarily burdening Kenyans with high tax which include reducing the number of government workers like Ministers and CAS. They also propose that the ruling regime cut costs on the continuous use of government resources on cases that have alternative means for example private choppers to transport and attending unnecessary harambees by government workers.
The opposition leadership also warned of resuming street demonstrations if the bipartisan talks would have not kicked off in proper manner.
