Bungoma Governor together with his wife, Bungoma First Lady Dr.Margaret Makelo, played host to H.E Tessie Musalia, spouse to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi during the commemoration of World Environmental Day at Kibabii University Grounds.
They planted 20,000 seedlings to realize the 15billion trees,in league with President William Ruto’s directive on increasing 30% forest cover to mitigate climate change.
Lusaka said his administration has well-established structures to manage and conserve the environment.
Through the Department of Tourism, Environment and Climate change, the following environmental measures across the County have been undertaken;
1.Formulated policies such as Climate Change Act , Environmental and social safeguard policy, Environmental policy (Draft),Solid waste management (Draft).
2.Governor has already gazetted the County Environment Committee which brings together all environmental players in the County to enhance operations .
3 .The County has put in place the Climate change Committee in all the 45 Wards across the County to address climate change related impacts to improve the livelihood of the Bungoma people.

4.His administration has taken interest in proper solid waste management in 50 urban centres across the County including dumpsite management.
5.The County has improved its tree cover from 7.9% to over 20% in 2023.
6.He is undertaking urban planning with emphasis in environmental conservation that include creation of green spaces, expansion of the sewer systems, proper drainage systems, proper solid waste management among others.
