Busia County will host the second Edition of beach games set to be held in June this year on a date yet to be announced. National Olympics Committee, NOC, Secretary General Mr. Francis Mutuku said after touring the County that they intend to utilize the beaches around Lake Victoria to hold the competitions.
Speaking after a meeting with Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma, Mr. Mutuku further said that the intention of the tournament is to promote local talent and provide national teams with an appropriate environment for training ahead of the coming African championships.
“We want to take the opportunity of the available water bodies around the country so that the communities around these resources can use them to train,” he said.
Mutuku says NOC’s intention of having water sports competitions devolved to Counties is in preparation for having a national team to represent Kenya in the 2032 Olympic Games.
“We want the federation to put up branches across the country for talent development.”
Busia County Sports CEC Paul Ekwenye has welcomed the decision by NOC saying it will provide an appropriate opportunity for Busia County to promote its hospitality and tourism industry.
Busia County Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma has assured NOC of support and collaboration during the competitions and support.
The water sports will be held in Bunyala Sub-County.
